Local coffee lovers can now enjoy their favorite drink and benefit the Minerva community at the same time by visiting Hope Community Coffee, located across from Minerva Elementary School at 133 Bonnieview Ave.

A ministry of Hope Community, half of all proceeds made by the coffee shop are used to benefit a variety of programs and organizations in the Minerva community.

Currently, the coffee shop is donating to the Summer Meals Program at Minerva Elementary School, to help provide food for local children who won't get enough to eat when school is out. Since February, they have raised $1,050, or enough to feed 10 children for the entire summer.

Giving back to the community is a primary focus of Hope Community, the church, and Hope Community Coffee. According to Lead Pastor Phil Rittenhouse, "Hope Community is a church that is for Minerva and its people, whether they attend this church or not. The mission of Hope Community Coffee is an extension of that bringing people together to better our community, one cup at a time."

"We want to come alongside area businesses and organizations to be a catalyst for making real change in our hometown," added Executive Pastor Paul Snyder. "We want to engage in a meaningful way with the people of this community, more than just on Sundays, and this coffee shop is just one way we can do that."

In addition to their support of the Minerva Community, Hope Community Coffee is also helping others across the globe through the coffee they buy for their menu offerings. All their coffee is purchased from Phoenix Roasters, a faith-based coffee roasting company in Duluth, Georgia. Phoenix works directly with farmers in Central America, and the living wage they pay their farmers is 300-400% more than what the farmers are paid by other coffee companies.

While such indigenous people typically live in extreme poverty and are treated as second class citizens in their own country, the living wage the farmers earn with Phoenix allows them to support their families and invest back into their own local communities.

Phoenix Roasters also uses the proceeds from their coffee sales to benefit the Atlanta community, helping to plant churches, and supporting the Atlanta Mission and the Homeless Joe Project, a program providing dignified employment to homeless men in the Atlanta area.

The positive ripple effect created on so many levels is one of the things Snyder and Rittenhouse love most about Hope Community Coffee and Phoenix Roasters.

"All along the way, our coffee is doing good around the world," said Rittenhouse. "Plus, the coffee Phoenix sells is in the top 1% of the best coffee in the world, so you know it's great stuff. But we don't want people to take our word for it, they should come in and try it for themselves!"

Open since February 2017, Hope Community Coffee is a full service coffee shop serving hot and cold drinks, ranging from simple black coffee to flavored lattes, cappuccinos and iced coffee.

They also offer tea, and have recently expanded their menu to include nitro coffee.

Nitro is cold brewed coffee infused with nitrogen to bring out the flavor and add smoothness. The coffee shop also has space for people to lounge or work, and free wireless internet is available. They are open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a menu and more information is available at HopeCommunityOnline.org.
