Minerva student qualifies for state skills competition

Ashley Pittson of Minerva High School is one of eight students from R. G. Drage Career Technical Center who qualified for state competition after competing at the 2017 SkillsUSA Ohio Northeast Regional Competition held at Trumbull County Career Technical Center on Feb. 25.

Pittson, who won second place in advertising design at the competition, will represent Drage and her home high school during the state competition to be held from April 11 to 12 in Columbus.

Students from R. G. Drage who qualified for state competition and the categories in which they will compete include: Sam Weinland, Precision Machining, of Northwest High School, with a first place in CNC milling; Casey Curlutu, Precision Machining, of Louisville High School, with a first place in CNC turning; Toby Gingerich, Building Trades, of Tuslaw High Schoo, second place in carpentry; Isaac Phillips, Auto Collision, of Louisville, third place in auto refinishing; John Adams, Welding, of Tuslaw High School, third place in welding fabrication; Ethan Bellew, Welding, of Louisville High Schoo, third place in welding fabrication; and Tristan Farnsworth, Welding, of Fairless High School, third place in welding fabrication.

First-place winners at the state level will move on to the national competition held in June at Louisville, Ky.
