Barbara Palmer plans to celebrate her 90th birthday by presenting a piano/organ musical program consisting of old-time hymns and other favorites as well as hymn singing for guests to join in. Barbara will be at the organ and her son, Jim, will be at the piano. The program will begin Jan. 29, 2 p.m. in the Minerva First Christian Church, 300 West Lincoln Way, Minerva.
Barbara was born January 26, 1927, in Washington Township to Lawrence and Ruth (Grimes) Byers. She attended Mt. Pleasant school and graduated from Alliance High School in 1943. She married Kenneth Palmer in June, 1947, and they shared 63 years together until his death in 2010. She has resided in the area all her life.
Barbara worked in the laboratory of Transue-Williams Steel Forging from 1944 until 1949, and in what must be the longest maternity leave on record, returned to exactly the same position in 1972. She retired from there in 1989.
Barbara is a member of Minerva First Christian Church, having joined in 1958 to establish a church home in the community where her children would attend school. She served as church organist for many years.
A reception will follow in the church social hall with light refreshments. Guests should feel free to attend either or both parts of the celebration.
Barbara requests that no gifts be presented, however, your presence, a note of a shared memory or a card would be appreciated.
