"KidScripts," including the world premieres of two short plays written by Minerva Elementary School students, will come to the Roxy Theatre, Saturday, March 18, at 2 p.m.
In September, a professional actor and teacher from Magical Theatre Company visited MES, and, using creative dramatics, improvisation, and theater games, assisted gifted fourth- and fifth-grade language-arts students in beginning their stories, as well as addressing some of the mechanics of writing.
Magical Theatre Company staff then reviewed the students' submissions and chose two to dramatize.
During the one-hour live-theater performance at the Roxy, the writers whose stories were chosen will each sit in a special author's chair to view his new play. Each will also be presented with a copy of his script autographed by the actors, receive a Playwright's Award certificate, and have his picture taken on the set with the actors.
During the awards presentation, honorable-mention certificates will be presented to six other writers.
The performance will begin at 2 p.m., and the doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Admission is free for students and $5 for adults.
KidScripts is made possible by ArtsinStark and the Minerva Community Charitable Fund.
