The West Township Ruritans held their monthly meeting at the News Alexander Christian Church on June 5. Church members served a delicious creamed chicken over biscuits dinner.
President Marianne Gergel called the meeting to order. Mark Overhold led the club in singing of the first verse of "America." and Susan Hawk led the invocation. Meeting opened with Overholt calling roll. May secretary and treasurer's report were read and approved.
Gergel awarded one scholarship to Nora Yankovich at the Minerva High School Awards night. All three scholarships will be given at the July 10 Family picnic at the park in East Rochester at 6:30 p.m. This is a covered dish event and all are welcome. President Gergel reported the success of the First Garden Tractor Pull held May 13.
Garden tractor pulls are scheduled for Friday, June 16, 5 p.m. and July 1, 2 p.m. Kitchen will be serving food.
Members discussed landscaping projects that will be done in association with the East Rochester Garden Club. Loretta Mangun from StoneHouse Gardens gave a detailed description of tentative plans. Thanks were given to Bowman Tree Service for installing the new rope on the flag pole.
Space will be available for rent for the Route 30 Garage Sales. This sale will coordinate with the Ruritan Homecoming/Tractor Pulls to be held Aug. 11 and Aug. 12.
