Minerva's Market Street Art Spot will highlight the month of July with an all-new show on Friday July 14 entitled "a few of my favorite things" by our own Resident Artist Michelle Mulligan. Michelle helped create the Market Street Art Spot in Minerva almost seven years ago and has been the featured artist at the Spot on several occasions over the years.
A resident of the Minerva area, Michelle has spent the better part of her adult life raising a family with her husband, but has always managed to find an outlet for the creativity inside of her. In recent years, that outlet has taken the form of oil painting.
Combining two years of art training at the university level and private lessons with individual research and general observation over the years has had a significant impact on her artwork.
Michelle has given private instruction to numerous students and is currently a member of the Akron Society of Artists and the Canton Artist League. Several of her paintings have been accepted into local and national juried shows in which some have received awards.
Recently Michelle noted, "As we are created in the image of God, I believe we are all capable of reflecting His creativity in some manner and in varying degrees. I try to paint as often as I can, not only as an outlet for the gift God has placed in me, but also as a means to refine that gift and for the immense pleasure the whole process brings. If, in that expression, another can find something to appreciate, that is an added blessing."
The Art Spot has showcased the work of its Resident Artists and featured local artists as well as 30 to 35 Display Artists from across Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania for more than six years. For 77 consecutive months, the Art Spot has held a Featured Artist Opening reception with live music, free food and refreshments.
This month, the acoustic artistry of the Raines Sisters of East Canton will bring a variety of country and pop music to the Art Spot. This month's sponsor of the opening reception is the Edward Jones Financial and Diane Evans of Minerva.
The Art Spot at 217 North Market Street, Minerva, is a collaborative gallery and with the recent addition of four new Resident Artists, the Market Street Art Spot continues to be open for regular business on Fridays from 1pm to 6pm and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This remarkable show of " a few of my favorite things"of Michelle Mulligan will continue at the Art Spot through August 5, 2017.
As they have done for more than six years, The Art Spot's local volunteers, Resident Artists, the Raines Family and Edward Jones Financial will provide outstanding food, and refreshments. As always, the reception, music and show are free and open to the public.
In addition to Michelle Mulligan in the Front Gallery, the Art Spot will feature throughout the gallery, the works of the Art Spot's Newest Resident Artists Anna Rather (printmaker, painter), Judi Longacre (painter), Susan Crawford (calligrapher, illustrator), Joan Henninger (painter) and long time Resident Artists) Laura Donnelly (potter and painter), Judith Singer (raku potter) and Marty Chapman (wood turner).
