Crossroads RC&D elects its new board members, presents awards at annual meeting

Crossroads Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, held its annual meeting on Feb. 12 at the Carlisle Inn at Sugarcreek.

Mitch Cattrell of Columbiana County was elected to serve on the executive board for a two-year term. Cattrell retired from the Natural Resource Conservation Service in April 2009 after 34 years of service, which included working in Ohio, West Virginia and New York. He is currently managing his tree farm and involved in timber-stand improvement. He is a member of the Little Beaver Creek Land Foundation and is chairman of Columbiana County Farm Bureau Policy Committee.

Barbara Pincola of Harrison County was recently appointed to replace Chris Jacobs on the board for the remainder of his term. Pincola is a resident of Harrison County, and is serving her first term as county commissioner. She holds a bachelor of science degree in information systems from Ohio Dominican University in Columbus and a master's degree in business administration from Franciscan University of Steubenville. She is a former board member of Harrison Soil and Water District and was its representative to Crossroads RC&D. She is a member of the Farm Bureau and Harrison County Historical Society.

Doyle Hawk, Carroll County commissioner, was elected as vice-president. Dan Bing, Sr., Columbiana County commissioner, will serve as president. Other board members are Tuscarawas County resident Jill Lengler, past-president; John H. Davis of Carroll County as secretary-treasurer; Glendon Deal of Muskingum County; Paul Prater of Coshocton County; and Belle Everett of Tuscarawas County, who was appointed during 2009.

The Partner of the Year award was presented to the Ohio State Beekeepers Association for its assistance with the very successful Don Myers Eastern Ohio Apiculture Project. Ron Hoopes, president of OSBA accepted the award. Winners of this award have contributed significantly to the fulfillment of the mission of Crossroads RC&D.

A delicious breakfast buffet was served prior to the business meeting. The event concluded with a silent auction, with all proceeds going to support the operating budget. Gifts were generously donated by members, partners, and businesses in Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Jefferson, Muskingum, Stark, and Tuscarawas counties.
