Do you own some land in the country? Would you like to learn how to make a living off the land? Would you like to retire to a farm? Have you always dreamed of owning and operating a farm?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then plan on attending the Northeast Ohio Small Farm Conference and Trade Show on Saturday, March 27, at the R.G. Drage Career Technical Center in Massillon.
"Living Your Small Farm Dream" is the theme for the day-long event, which will feature more than 20 different sessions on topics such as meat goats, freshwater shrimp, poultry production, berry production, greenhouses, grass-fed livestock, maple-syrup production, woodlot management, and dozens of other topics.
According to Mike Hogan, Ohio State University Extension Educator, the conference will help rural landowners and aspiring landowners learn how to develop sound, profitable business enterprises on small-acreage farms.
"The Small Farm Conference and Trade Show will showcase some farm enterprises which northeast Ohio landowners can develop into profitable businesses, but more importantly, participants will learn how and where to find financing for their farm businesses, how to manage their tax liability, how to comply with laws and regulations, and most importantly, how to have fun and involve the entire family in the business," sayidHogan.
The event will include a trade show of businesses and organizations that service small farms, and an extensive bookstore. The keynote address at the conference will focus on "Choosing the Best Farm Enterprise for Your Family" and the capstone address will show participants how to "Make Your Small Farm Dream Come True."
Registration for the Small Farm Conference and Trade Show is $50, and includes morning refreshments, a hot buffet lunch, program handouts, and admission to five different sessions during the day. Registration is due before March 19. A complete agenda and registration form can be found online at www.carroll.osu.edu. For information, call 330-627-4310.
