Troop 155 journeys out west

Published:

On Tuesday, July 27, 20 Boy Scouts and adults boarded a train bound for Cimarron, N.M., to participate in Malvern Troop 155's 16th Philmont trek. The trek is a 12-day backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch.

The ranch is the Boy Scouts of America's oldest national high-adventure base comprising 137,493 acres or about 215 square miles of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the Rockies with elevations ranging from 6,500 to 12,441 feet. The 34 staffed camps and 55 trail camps provide an adventure in the high country along hundreds of miles of rugged, rocky trails.

Some of the programs the Scouts will participate in include rock climbing, roping, pole climbing, touring petroglyphs, climbing Mt. Baldy, climbing the Tooth of Time, shooting clay targets, mountain biking and a conservation project.
