Brown trustees updated about tax abatements

The Brown Township Board of Trustees learned Aug. 16 the status of two tax abatements in the township.

Trustee Rod Wise reported that a tax abatement for the Minerva Colfor plant was approved by the Tax Incentive Review Committee, but the abatement for the Malvern plant has ended.

In other business, the board:

* APPROVED purchasing a new computer for the trustees to use.

* HEARD Wise explain the Bureau of Worker's Compensation rating with the Frank Gates Service Company and recommended the township stay with the company.

* DISCUSSED setting corrugated plastic pipes for drainage ditches at Sandy Hills Estates, the Latin Road ditches, and chip and sealing which was to begin Aug. 23.

* HEARD Fire Chief Mike Penick report the department responded to the following calls: Aug. 4, alarm drop, West Mohawk Drive; Aug. 4, motor-vehicle acident, Waynesburg Road; and Aug. 9, stove fire, Canton Road.

* AUTHORIZED Penick to purchase batteries for the thermal-imaging camera and portable radios.

* LEARNED during Penick's report that pump and drafting training has been completed, two new applications have been received for the department, and the trustees will be invited to attend the department's meetings.

* HEARD Trustee Ed Clark remind Penick that volunteers were needed to put 911 stickers on the new business directories.

* RECESSED into an executive session to discuss personnel issues with no action taken.

* PAID bills totaling $27,700.

The next meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Brown Township Hall.
