It has been a roller-coaster ride for Sandy Creek Joint Fire District since Election Day, but now after two recounts and nearly a month, the district has received some positive news.
At its meeting Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 4, the Stark County Board of Election certified the Sandy Creek Joint Fire District levy with 1,337 votes for passage and 1,238 against.
On Election Day, the levy appeared to have failed, but the counting of provisional ballots had the levy passing by three votes as of Nov. 27. Because the votes were so close, the ballots were recounted Dec. 4.
With the passage of the 4-mill levy, Paris and West townships' boards of trustees agreed to repeal their existing fire levies, since the district's new levy will replace them.
