Area under weather advisory, schools sending kids home early

Published:

Minerva and Brown local schools are sending the high-school and middle-school students home early today (Friday, Jan. 25), to allow the buses additional time on the roads before the elementary runs.

At Minerva, high- and middle-school students will be dismissed at 2:10 p.m. The elementary students will be dismissed at their regular time.

At Brown (Malvern), high- and middle-school students will be dismissed at 1:45 p.m., not 2:20 p.m. The elementary students will be dismissed at 3 p.m., instead of 3:20 p.m., if all of the buses have returned.

School officials ask parents and caregivers to be patient as the buses may be slow to maneuver the snowy roads. It may take longer for the children to arrive home.

Carrollton Exempted Village Schools and Carroll Hills School and Workshops cancelled classes Thursday night (Jan. 25).

There is a winter weather advisory in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service indicates the accumulation of around three inches by this evening.

A winter weather advisory for snow means that snowfall will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibility. Report snow accumulation to the national weather service by calling 412-262-1988, posting to the nws pittsburgh Facebook page or using Twitter @nwspittsburgh.
