Shredded tire fire breaks out at Liberty Tire Recycling

A field of shredded tires went ablaze at Liberty Tire Recycling's Minerva facility in Paris Township on March 22 causing a plume of black smoke that reportedly could be seen from Canton.

Several different fire departments responded including the local Sandy Creek Joint Fire District and The Great Trail Fire District of Minerva and Malvern, respectively.

There were no injuries reported. According to sources the fire was caused by an equipment malfunction.

According to its website, Liberty Tire Recycling reclaims more than 33 percent of the nation's discarded tires and each year it transforms more than 140 million tires into raw materials to be used for sustainable products.
