C.A.S.T. presents 'Steel Magnolias' April 7-8

Published: April 6, 2017 12:00 AM

The C.A.S.T. Community Theater will present the stage production "Steel Magnolias" on April 7 and 8.

Written by Robert Harling and produced with permission by Dramatists Play Service, the play is set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, La., where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, played by Wendy Boyes, the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy, played by Piper Eckenrode, dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, played by Virginia Boyes; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, played by Belinda Mach; and the local social leader, M'Lynn, played by Jenni Chadwell, whose daughter, Shelby, played by Celia Meek, is about to marry a "good ole boy."

Although filled with humorous repartee and not a few verbal collisions, the play moves toward life's tragedy. The sudden realization of their mortality affects some but also draws on the underlying strength--and love--which make the play, and its characters, touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

Production staff is led by Executive Director Dorothy Fritz; directed by Jaylin Chadwell; and assisted by Brad Eick, Tim Cashen and Jenni Chadwell. Stage technicians are Emily Wymer and Chris Gotschall with house manager, Scott Fritz and kitchen staff Deb Senko and Ashley Champine.

The C.A.S.T. is located at 1128 Antigua Road in Carrollton. Doors open at 6 p.m. when concessions will be available, and showtime is 6:30 p.m. Advance sale tickets are $8 per person if purchased before April 1 by sending payment to P.O. Box 512, Carrollton, Ohio 44615.
