Brown BOE approves staff contracts, new hire

Brown Local Board of Education approved staff contracts during a brief April 17 meeting.

Board members approved the hiring of new art teacher Katie Rowles for the 2017-18 school year effective Aug. 1. Rowles, who was a student teacher at Brown Local last year, is set to receive her necessary teaching licenses prior to her first day with the district.

Board members also approved the hiring of Katlyn Snoddy as a certified substitute for the current school year.

The board renewed contracts for the following certified staff for the 2016-17 school year: for two years Carly Baudendistel, Matthew Chiurco, Michelle Cunningham, Duane Dungee, Tiffany Fletcher, Lance Graham, Jeneva Ford, Keri Hoffer, Sue Hudson, Susan Johnson, Mindy Long, Shannon Schmidt, Katie Spencer, Jenna Wagner, Jenna Wittwer and Rhonda Zeedrich; for one year Georganne Bryan, Joshua Eshelman, Vanessa Fawcett, Kristi Hoffman, Michael Kane, Courtney Kuhle, Tiffany Smith and Jeremy Taylor; for one year pending federal funding approval Robert Doerschuk, Seth Goshorn, Abigail Lowe, Tiffanie Pyles and Robert Wilson.

Contracts for the following classified staff for the 2016-17 school year were also approved: for two years Chester Ashton, Klint Ferrell and Rebecca Ford; for one year Jeff Lambert, Jeremiah Maney and Michael Schrickel; continuing Nancy Bardine, Melinda Kandel, Kimberly Pearson and Lori Wheeler.

In other business, the board:

HEARD that prom will take place Saturday, April 29. Promenade will take place in the school's cafetorium.

LEARNED that Interim Superintendent Scott Bowling would conduct a second round of interviews with four finalists for the elementary school principal position.

ACCEPTED a $105 donation to the athletic department in memory of Florence Richards from the family and friends of Florence Richards.

APPROVED a list of seniors for graduation pending completion of all requirements mandated by the Ohio Department of Education and Brown Local School District.
