On May 28 at approximately 1:24 p.m. the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on state Route 43 (Waynesburg Drive) near mile post 3 in Sandy Township, Stark County.
A silver, 2005 Toyota Corolla, driven by Yolanda F. Rymer, 38, of Canton, was southbound on SR-43 and went left of center striking a gray, 2011 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Robert L. Modranski, 64, of Carrollton. The vehicle then struck a blue, 1994 Ford Bronco head-on. The Bronco was driven by Steven E. Nuske, 25, of Canton.
Rymer was transported by Emergency Medical Service to Mercy Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Her two rear-seat passengers, Michael S. Rymer, 18, of Malvern, and Crissy L. Sunderman, 16, also of Malvern, sustained serious injuries during the crash and were transported to Aultman Hospital by EMS. Sunderman was then transported to Akron Children's Hospital for further treatment.
The Dodge was also occupied by Glenda Modranski, 62, and two rear-seat juvenile passengers, ages 7 and 4. All occupants of the Dodge sustained possible, but not serious, injuries and did not require transport by EMS.
Nuske sustained a non-serious injury and was transported by EMS to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.
No occupants of the Toyota used a seat belt. All other occupants in both vehicles were belted or secured in a proper child safety seat. The patrol reminds everyone to please use a seat belt.
Alcohol is not believed to have contributed to the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
This is the 10th fatal crash in Stark County this year.
