The Carroll County Retired Teachers Association met Friday, June 16, at the Carrollton Bible Chapel.
The 20 members in attendance enjoyed the generous family style dinner prepared by Judy Cunningham and the ladies of the church followed by the program "Volunteering at Hospice Browse 'n Buy" presented by Manager Carol Van Fossen and Volunteer Charlotte Dunlap. They explained the Community Hospice operation in detail and answered questions from the members.
Vice President Rose Seck then welcomed new member Robert Givens and conducted the business meeting. The members voted to donate $250 to the Back to School Extravaganza held Aug. 12.
Committee reports were given by Rose Seck, Darlene Smith and Bob Givens. Members were encouraged by Givens to write to STRS to question the propriety of awarding their employees a three percent raise and at the same time eliminating a Cost of Living adjustment for the very benefit recipients who are paying their salary. Membership in the Ohio Retired Teachers Association helps provide some needed oversight of STRS and members were encouraged to join.
The next meeting will be held on Aug. 11 at the Church of Christ picnic pavilion. Drinks, sandwiches and table service will be provided for by donation, but a salad, snack or dessert will be welcome. In the even of extreme weather conditions, the picnic will be indoors.
