Two people were jailed after troopers with the Ohio Highway Patrol's Canton post pulled over an impaired driver for speeding and found both of the vehicle's occupants carrying handguns.

Stark County Jail records said Rayshawn A. Beltz, 32, of 1310 17th St. NW, Apt. 2, was driving the vehicle when he was pulled over at 2:32 a.m. July 29 at Fulton and Midvale roads NW.

He and his passenger, Catherine L. Easterling, 43, of 116 Bonnieview Ave. in Minerva, each had Hi-Point 9mm semi-automatic handguns, the jail records said. She was sitting on a magazine containing two 9mm rounds of ammunition.

Each was jailed on a felony charge of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle. Beltz additionally was jailed on charges of carrying concealed weapons, possession of a controlled substance, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and an assured clear distance violation.

Both were released from jail. Beltz posted $26,000 bond, and Easterling was freed after posting $25,000 bond, both pending Canton Municipal Court hearings.
