Skywarn spotter training offered March 17

The monthly meeting of the Canton Amateur Radio Club will be held at Kent State Stark Campus, March 17, at 6:30 p.m., with registration at 6 p.m., for the annual Skywarn spotter training.

Gary Garnet/KC8TJI from the Cleveland office of the NWS will return for his 11th storm-season training class.

The Canton Amateur Radio Club, founded in 1941, is an ARRL special service club. It also meets for breakfast every second Saturday of each month at the Nazir Grotto Building, 1717 6th St., Canton, at 8:30 a.m. Use exit 105 off of I-77. Handicap parking is available at the door, with no steps.

Regular monthly meetings of the CARC, on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m., are normally held at the Stark County EOC/EMA Training Room, on the lower level of the County Safety Building, 4500 Atlantic Blvd. NE.

The CARC is a co-sponsor for Ham Radio Venture Crew 73, an opportunity for young women and men, ages 14-20, who have completed the eighth grade, to learn about ham radio - people-to-people communicating.

The CARC meets at other times and locations for special community-related events, such as the field day the last week in June, Skywarn training, the annual awards banquet in January, and the annual picnic.
