The community is invited to view the documentary "All God's Children" at Minerva United Methodist Church, Sunday, March 18, at 7 p.m.
Through the eyes of three families, "All God's Children" tells the personal story of the first boarding school for children of missionaries to be investigated for abuse at the hands of the parents' missionary colleagues. In the film, the survivors and parents share their journey of seeking justice, redemption, and healing.
Minerva High School French teacher Dianne Darr Couts and her brothers, Rich and David, were among the children attending the Christian and Missionary Alliance Mamou Alliance Academy in Guinea, West Africa, in the 1950s and 60s. The Darrs appear in the film, helping to tell what happened at the school and how those experiences have shaped their lives.
Dianne and David will be on hand to answer questions following the screening.
"There's much we can learn from this film -- about predators and about 'good people' whose silence enables predators. At the same time, we can learn about how courage and unified action can shed a light on horrific crimes and help deeply wounded victims recover," said David Clohessy, national director of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests.
Refreshments will be offered and a nursery will be available for young children.
MUMC is located at 204 N Main St.
