The 115th family reunion was recently held for the descendants of the Joseph and Mary Ann (Reid) Thompson family.
The cousins met at the park in Minerva for the August covered-dish dinner. Vice-president Earlyn (Thompson) McComb conducted the business meeting. Plans were discussed for the next reunion.
The family history update included the following:
Births: Born May 28, 2009, Andrew Levi Walker, son born to Daniel and Sonia Walker, grandson to Ronald and Susan (Oyer) Little, great-grandson to Lillis Oyer and the late Robert Oyer. Andrew joined his twin sisters Leeann and Payton Walker.
Two marriages were reported. On Sept. 19, 2009, Brett James Oyer and Tori Marie Lindesmith were married at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Salem. He is the son of Sherman and Patricia Oyer and grandson of Lillis Oyer of Kensington and the late Robert Oyer.
On May 22, Heather Sue Trubee and Racine Marcus Brown were married at First Presbyterian Church, Millersburg. Heather is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. R. Eldon and Bonnie (Cox) Trubee, and granddaughter of the late Ralph and Esther Cox.
Three deaths were reported. Vera (Thompson) Morehead died March 24 at Sebring. Gerald "Jerry" Mills died June 3 in Minerva and had been owner of the Normandy Inn and son of the late Doris and Rex Mills. Helen Tinlin died in April, and was the wife of Rae Tinlin of the Dellroy area.
Kathy Oyer, of Kensington, a student at Kent State University, will do her student teaching in the fall and will graduate in December.
Larry Tinlin, grandson of the late Genevieve (Thompson) Tinlin, is on the sick list.
Bea Sassaman, a great-granddaughter of the late Sophia (Thompson) Moore, had pneumonia in the winter.
Kevin Disotell, of Boardman, is in the master's program at The Ohio State University in aeronautics and astro-aeronautics. Michael Disotell of Boardman is a senior in Westminster College in pre-law. Kevin and Michael are sons of Bill and Darlene (Oyer) Disotell. The Oyer family name descends from the Anne M. (Thompson) and John Oyer union.
Bonnie Trubee, a descendant of Sophia (Thompson) Moore family line, retired after 30 years of teaching.
Andrew McComb's health has improved and he was in attendance this year.
Correspondence was shared from Betty (Binsley) Close of Oberlin and her Thompson family update. She is from the James Reid and Nancy (Martin) Thompson family line. She and husband Glenn have two children in the Oberlin area, one in Charlotte, N.C. and the youngest and family in Utah after 10 years in Colorado. The Closes have grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Portland, Ore.; Raleigh, N.C.; Chicago; and Windsor, Colo., and Oberlin, also.
The remainder of the reunion time was spent reviewing pictures from previous reunions.
