The families of more than 400 children in Minerva school district have asked the local Salvation Army service unit for help in providing gifts for their children (newborn to age 14) on Christmas morning.
In past years the Salvation Army staff and volunteers have been able to count on large donations of free toys to add to the packages of clothing and footwear given by area individuals, families, churches and businesses to the children they have "adopted" for the Christmas holiday.
However, the number of donated toys has dropped sharply this month and the Salvation Army must count on the generosity of regular and first-time supporters of the Christmas gift program to fill in the gap.
Toys for children, new-born to age 14, are urgently needed and may be delivered to the Salvation Army office in Minerva, 301 Valley St. (in front of the NYC caboose) during office hours, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Donations of cash are also welcome and will be used by SA staff and volunteers to purchase toys for children who are registered for the gift program.
