Malvern had four players reach double digits in scoring as it downed host East Canton 67-58.

The Hornets led 17-7 at the end of the first quarter, 31-20 at halftime, and 43-41 entering the final stanza.

Mark Mayle had 22 points and 14 boards; Jaret Majestic had 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists; Drew Hutchison had 13 points and eight assists; and Jake Moser had 10 points and six caroms.

"It was good to win another rivalry game," stated Head Coach Dennis Tucci. "We finished 5-0 versus East Canton, Sandy Valley and Minerva. That was important for the kids, and they got it done.

"I really liked a lot of things about this game. Shooting 32 free throws means we were aggressive going to the hoop. Having four players in double figures is a coach's dream. I also liked how the guys handled the ball in our delay games. We were under control, and we moved the ball around until we got a layup or East Canton fouled us.

"Jaret filled up the stat sheet. Drew almost had a double double. He was outstanding with the ball in his hands. Jake had a very good game. Brandon (Patterson) had foul trouble for the first time, but was solid out there for us. He had a couple of real nice passes in to Mark. Christian (Grimm) had his best game in a while. He made two foul shots, but more importantly handled the ball great in our delay and hit Jaret for a three late in the game. That was a dagger for East Canton.

"Mark continues to play well. He has had to face foul trouble these last two games, and that has taken away some of his aggressiveness, yet he ends up with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

"I really liked how we faced adversity and handled it like the champions I know we can be. They cut our big lead to 24-20 in the first half, and the guys responded with a 7-0 run to end the half. East Canton played well in the third quarter and cut our lead to two. However, Jaret, Drew, and Mark led our guys through that tough time, and we went on another run to win comfortably. I was really proud of the boys tonight."
