The Inter-Valley Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Championship was on the line when top-seeded Malvern took on third-seeded Strasburg at Hiland High School.
The two teams split their regular-season games, with both contests going into overtime.
It looked as if their third meeting was headed to extra time, until Malvern's Derk Hutchison connected on a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired.
The game was tight throughout with Strasburg leading 10-9 after one quarter of play.
John Browning tallied seven points in the second frame and Hutchison connected on a deep 3-ball as time expired, sending the Hornets into intermission with the momentum and a 23-20 advantage.
Malvern maintained a slight lead until 4:32 remaining in the fourth quarter as the Tigers scored five straight points for a 32-30 advantage.
The Hornets retook the lead on an inside bucket by Browning with 1:37 to go.
Trailing by three, Strasburg was able to sink three straight free throws to tie the game at 37-37 with less thank 10 seconds remaining on the clock.
The Hornets quickly moved the ball down court, eventually getting it to Hutchison, who let a shot fly from behind the arch, hitting nothing but net as the buzzer sounded, sending the Malvern faithful into a frenzy.
Browning finished with a game-high 16 points. Hutchison added 11 points, Adam Moser had five points, and Max Earl and Payton Davis each had four points.
With the win, Malvern ends its season with a 17-1 record. Strasburg falls to 14-4.
