Malvern closed out its regular season with an impressive 84-46 win against visiting Ridgewood.
Jaret Majestic exploded for 22 second-half points on his way to a season-high 29. The senior was 8-for-9 from the field over the final two quarters of play. He also grabbed six rebounds, swiped five steals and dished out four assists.
"It was senior night, and the seniors played an outstanding game," commented Head Coach Dennis Tucci. "Jaret was tremendous. He was all over the floor tonight. He had big numbers across the board. At one time he made eight straight shots. He was feeling it."
Mark Mayle was two assists shy of a triple-double as he tallied 12 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists.
The Hornets led from start to finish as it ended league play at 10-6, good enough for fourth place.
Malvern closed out the opening stanza up 23-10, and took a 30-15 advantage into halftime. Majestic caught fire in the third stanza as the hosts led 55-30 with eight minutes to play.
Nine players scored for the winners. Jake Moser had 13 points and five boards, Jack Naiman had eight points, Drew Hutchison recorded six assists, and Jordan Browning had six points.
"Jack played his best game," noted Coach Tucci. "He scored eight points and was very active in our pressure defense. Jordan continues his hot shooting as he hit two more 3-pointers.
"Drew made some great passes and Mark just missed a triple double. He was a monster on the boards and had some great passes as well. Jake got us going early. He was scoring in traffic and that loosened up the defense. Brandon and Christian (Grimm) continue to play at a high level. Spenser Rabbitt also had a good effort off the bench. We are pleased with his progress.
"The boys are playing well, and we hope to make a run in the tournament."
Malvern (14-8, 10-6) was to open up sectional play against Frontier on Feb. 28. A win and the Hornets will host either Buckeye Trail or Bridgeport on Friday, March 3, 7 p.m.
