Minerva returns six lettermen from last year's baseball team which posted an overall mark of 13-14, 7-7 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.
Back are seniors Jack Hanley and Brock Croston; and juniors Connor Wright, Dan Common, Jake Stewart and Shane Walters.
Wright will see time at pitcher and shortstop. A year ago, he was named to the NBC and East District first teams.
Hanley will pitch and play at second base, and Croston will anchor the outfield. Both were NBC honorable-mention selections in 2016.
Common will be at first and designated hitter, Stewart will be in the outfield, and Walters will play in the infield.
Also being looked upon to contribute are senior Dakota Romano (outfield, pitcher); junior Trey Carl (first base, designated hitter, pitcher); and sophomores Evan Hertel (pitcher, catcher, second base), Alex Kimble (pitcher, catcher), Dom Slentz (infield, pitcher) and Rylee Walker (pitcher, catcher, shortstop).
The Lions are under the direction of Head Coach Rocky Bourquin. His staff consists of Bruce Wright, Carl Michael, Kyle Isler and Jim Rittenhouse.
Bourquin is 26-28 at Minerva, and has an overall record of 196-90.
"We have six returning starters back, led by NBC first-team Connor Wright," stated Coach Bourquin. "We only have three seniors and will have to rely on our underclassmen. Marlington, Louisville and Carrollton are strong.
"We look to compete for the NBC title."
The Minerva baseball team will open up the season when it hosts Claymont this Monday, March 28. The boys will welcome Carrollton to Carl Michael Field the following day, and travel to Carrollton on Thursday, March 30.
