"Paige Elder will be starting her fourth season as our pitcher, and Macy Zeiger is starting her third year behind the plate," stated Malvern softball Head Coach Jim Townsend. "This combo must dominate for us to be successful."
The Lady Hornets return six starters -- senior Paige Elder (pitcher); juniors Macy Zeiger (catcher), Jessika Venoy (infield, outfield), McKenzie Haidet (infield, outfield) and Jordan Holmes (outfield); and sophomore Danielle Casler (second base).
Also being looked upon to contribute are junior Hanna Harsha (outfield); sophomore Haili Kendall (outfield); and freshmen Cailin Wade (third base), Madison Lewis (outfield), Hope Whaley (infield) and Madison Brothers (outfield).
"With the loss of two starters to graduation and an injury to a starter in the outfield, plus the loss of our starting left side of the infield not playing this year, we have a lot of holes to fill," noted Coach Townsend. "We have been working hard both in the weight room and during our indoor practices. We will struggle against teams that have strong returning rosters, but if we can come together early, we will be able to compete. We are very athletic and should be able to adjust to new positions.
"The IVC is still very strong with Garaway, Sandy Valley and Strasburg returning very strong teams. Tusky Central and Ridgewood also return veteran teams and East Canton, Malvern, Newcomerstown and Hiland will look to compete."
Coach Townsend's staff consists of Karli Townsend, Tom Zeiger, and Denise Townsend.
Malvern will open up the season this Monday, March 27 at Tusky Central. The girls will host Conotton Valley on Tuesday, March 28; and Sandy Valley on Wednesday, March 29.
