Strong pitching leads Minerva to pair of wins

Dominic Slentz allowed no earned runs in six innings of work as Minerva opened up the 2017 baseball season with a 7-3 non-conference win over Claymont.

Danny Common singled and drove in three runs; Slentz had a base hit and two RBIs; Connor Wright went 2-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored; and Jack Hanley had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored.

Minerva - 5

Carrollton - 0

Wright pitched an eight-hut shutout as the Lions opened up league play with a win against their rivals.

Wright struck out nine and walked just one in seven innings of work. He helped his cause at the plate, collection single, RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Hanley went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Common had a base hit and an RBI.

Minerva - 1

This past Saturday, Minerva dropped a non-league game to the Quakers. No other information was available at press time.

Minerva will host Salem today (April 6), Sandy Valley for a double header on Saturday, April 8, and Canton South on Tuesday, April 11.
