The Lady Lions improved to 2-1 in the NBC with a 79-49 track and field win over host Canton South.
Placing first were the 4x800 (11:23.5) consisting of Kala Eddy, Joaquina Rossi, Brittany Moyer and Kenzie Fountain; Madi Pearson in the 100 hurdles (16.7) and 300 hurdles (50.36); the 4x200 (1:49.33) consisting of Emmalee Markins, Ashley Gulling, Audra Burman and Alyssa Markins; Nelle Yankovich in the 1600 (5:51.75) and 800 (2:41.53); Sarah Carver in the 400 (1:05.33); Abby Chaddock in the 3200 (13:28.87); the 4x400 (5:31.04) consisting of Hailey Lawson, Pearson, Ava Burman and Carver; and Jordan Crowe in the discus (93'4).
Placing second were A. Markins in the 100 (12.9), Kala Eddy in the 1600 (5:53.67) and 800 (2:45.05), Skylar Trussell in the 400 (1:08.63), Amanda Kukunis in the 200 (27.73), Moyer in the 3200 (13:29.57), and Shelby Wheeler in the high jump (4'10).
Thirds went to Lawson in the 100 hurdles (18.29) and 300 hurdles (53.76), E. Markins in the 100 (13.49), Audra Burman in the 400 (1:09.29), Rossi in the 800 (2:47), Yankovich in the 3200 (13:31.13), Gulling in the long jump (12'11.5), and Natalie Crum in the shot (29'2.5).
The Lady Lions finished fifth out of 18 teams at the Big Ox Invitational at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
Scott had a solid day, winning the 3200 in 11:46.81 and finishing fourth in the 1600 with a time of 5:25.91.
Finishing third was the 4x200 (1:49.04) consisting of Gulling, Ava Burman, E. Markins and A. Markins.
Crowe was fourth in the discus with a throw of 99'2.
Placing fifth were Kukunis in the 200 (27.95), Yankovich in the 1600 (5:30.84), Daulbaugh in the 3200 (12:04.43), and the 4x100 (52.53) consisting of Gulling, Leavell, E. Markins and A. Markins.
Sixths went to A. Markins in the 100 (13.05), E. Markins in the 200 (27.95), Kukunis in the 400 (1:03.79), and Pearson in the 100 hurdles (17.25).
Finishing seventh were Ava Burman in the 400 (1:04.42), and Yankovich in the 800 (2:30.13).
Eighths went to Crum in the shot (30'9), Pearson in the 300 hurdles (53.68), Gulling in the long jump (13'10.5), Wheeler in the high jump (4'10), and the 4x800 (10:57.51) consisting of Kenzie Fountain, Rossi, Eddy and Daulbaugh.
"We ran solid, but not our best," stated Coach Olivia Scott. "Our meet with Canton South was canceled Tuesday and moved to Thursday. It is hard to recover with only one day in between races and I really feel this affected us.
"Jordan Crowe had another great day in the discus placing fourth and Natalie Crum took eighth in shot. Coach Ronches's hard work with the throwers is really showing."
"Amanda Kukunis has been dealing with an injury. This was her first big meet back and she looked strong. Our 4x200 is close to breaking the school record."
The Lions earned their first win of the season, beating Canton South 73-55.
Finishing first were the 4x800 (10"14.5) consisting of Joey Stafford, Cody Wyatt, Igor Borges and Nick Bledsoe; Jason Williams in the 100 (11.23) and 200 (23.02); the 4x200 (1:35.55) consisting of Williams, Carl Fritz, Wyatt Kohl and Coy Mullins; Stafford in the 1600 (4:59.31); Mullins in the 400 (54.13) and long jump (18'5); Fritz in the 800 (2:13.29); Nick Bledsoe in the 3200 (10:57.87); and the 4x400 (3:43.53) consisting of Fritz, Stafford, Mullins and Williams.
Placing second were Connor Fritz in the 110 hurdles (17.33) and 300 hurdles (44.84), Bledsoe in the 1600 (5:04.09), Stafford in the 800 (2:13.59), and Wyatt in the 3200 (11:23.17).
Finishing third were Zerick Banner in the 110 hurdles (17.51), Trevor Kirkpatrick in the 1600 (5:15.17) and 3200 (11:38.39), Borges in the 400 (55.27), Taylor Lowmiller in the 300 hurdles (44.93), Kohl in the 800 (2:14.8), Danny Hoagland in the high jump (5'), and Noe Gonzales in the shot (37'9.5).
"A solid team effort plus great performances by our team leaders made for a solid meet," stated Head Coach Frank Monk. Many personnel bests led to this team win. We showed that this boys team will get better as the season goes on."
At the Big Ox Invitational, Williams was third in the 200 (23.0), Mullins finished fourth in the long jump (19'2.5) and seventh in the 400 (53.82), and Stafford was sixth in the 3200 (10:22.39) and eighth in the 800 (2:11.04).
The 4x800 consisting of Ca. Fritz, Borges, Kohl and Bledsoe was seventh in 8:58.39; and the the 4x400 consisting of Ca. Fritz, Mullins, Kohl and Williams was eighth in 3:45.92.
"The boys made a nice showing at the Big Ox," noted Coach Bonk.
"A very strong competition by power teams from all three divisions made for excellent challenges for our team. All our boys ran very hard with many achieving seasons best in there events."
Minerva will compete in the Stark County Invitational at Perry this Saturday, April 22; before traveling to Marlington on Tuesday, April 25.
