Malvern rallies to beat Conotton Valley

Malvern rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh to beat Conotton Valley 5-4.

Down by two heading into the top of the seventh, the Hornets started the improbable comeback with a two-out single from Jaret Majestic. The senior stole second, and scored on a Jake Foster base hit.

Hunter Mullins followed with a single, and with runners on second and third, Jake Moser reached base on an error. Foster and Mullins both scored on the play.

Foster finished with two hits; Gavyn Potts went 2-for-4 with an RBI; Jordan Browning singled and drove in a run; and Drew Hutchison and Austin Patterson both singled and scored a run.

Majestic earned the win on the mound, giving up four runs, one earned, on 10 hits. He struck out three and walked two.

Newcomerstown - 8

Malvern - 4

Mullins went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the fourth, and scored two runs; Patterson tripled and drove in two runs; Foster singled, doubled and scored two runs; Hutchison went 2-for-4; and Chase Meyer and Moser both singled and scored a run.

Hutchison pitched six innings, giving up eight runs, six earned, on nine hits. He struck out four and walked one

Malvern - 1

Malvern's only run came in the sixth inning as Hutchison led off with a single and later scored on a double by Majestic.

Potts and Majestic both finished with two hits in three plate appearances.

Potts took the loss as he gave up 14 earned runs on 18 hits and three walks in six innings of work.

Garaway - 14

Malvern - 3

Majestic collected two hits, scored twice and drove in a run; Hunter Mullins went 1-for-2 with an RBI; and Potts singled and scored a run.

Hutchison went the first three innings, giving up eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits. Meyer pitched the final two innings, allowing six earned runs on six hits and four walks.

Malvern (5-10, 3-9) will host Tusky Central today (May 4) and East Canton on Friday, May 5; before traveling to Ridgewood on Monday, May 8.

Division IV East District Tournament

Malvern received the sixth seed and will host #8 Tusky Central this Saturday, May 6, 1 p.m. The winner will battle either #4 Rosecrans or #5 Frontier on Tuesday, May 9, 5 p.m. at the better seeded team's site.
