Kelsi Hulit dominated the throws events, and Zoe Moser was the fastest girl on the track, as both Lady Hornets won two titles at the Division III District Track and Field Championships, held at Newcomerstown.
Hulit shattered her school record in the shot by more than two feet, winning the event with a heave of 41-feet. She also placed first in the discus with a throw of 138-0.
Moser won the 100 with a time of 12.61 and the 200 in 25.92. Earlier in the week in the 200 prelims, Moser broke her own school record with a blistering 25.74.
With the top four advancing, Lauren Foster missed qualifying to regionals by quarter of an inch as she finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 14'4.25. Foster was also sixth in the 400 (1:06.53), and a member of the sixth-place 4x100 (53.92) along with Vanessa Stanbro, Hulit, and Moser.
"We are very proud of Kelsi and Zoe for moving on regionals and look forward to their continued success," stated Head Coach Jeremy Maher. "We know they will both represent Malvern well at the regional meet.
"We are extremely excited to have so many girls competing to move on to the regional meet, and even though they may not have made it, they had a amazing season."
The Lady Hornets finished fifth out of 20 teams with 50 points.
Garaway won the girls title with 98.5, and were followed by Tusky Central with 65, Buckeye Trail with 61.5 and Shadyside with 51.5.
Patterson records a pair of runner-up finishes
On the boys side, junior Brandon Patterson advanced to regionals in two events.
The long-distance specialist finished second in both the 1600 (4:41.79) and 3200 (10:31.65).
Casey Crowl scored for the Hornets, placing eighth in the high jump as he cleared 5'.
"We were very excited to see Brandon not only make it to regionals in one of his events, but both," stated Head Coach Seth Goshorn. "Brandon, Heath and I talked over a few race strategies and BP was able to go out an execute them perfectly. Now we have some options moving forward into regionals.
"As a team, we had some very promising moments this season and being loaded with freshman, the future is certainly bright."
The Division III regional meet will be held at Perry High School May 24 and May 26.
The top four finishers in each event will qualify to the 2017 State Track and Field Championships, held at Jesse Owens Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University, on June 2-3.
