Malone placed third, Miller seventh at State Wrestling Championships

Carrollton was represented quite well by its two matmen at the State Wrestling Championships.

Kevin Malone finished third at 285, while 103-pounder Joey Miller placed seventh.

Malone (41-5) won his opening two matches, pinning Jared Easterday of Springfield Shawnee at :27 and decisioning Ian Jones of Painesville Harvey 3-1.

In the championship semifinals, he lost to Drew Carpenter of Thornville Sheridan 6-2.

Malone regrouped in the consolation semifinals, beating Danny Demick of Chillicothe 3-1 in sudden victory.

Wrestling for third, Malone beat Mike Rutherford of Norton 3-1.

Miller lost his first match to Sean Fee of Mentor Lake Catholic 8-4.

Sent to the consolation bracket, Miller won his next two matches by pin, beating Zach Walker of Napoleon at 2:07, and Austin Skaggs of New Richmond at :29.

In the consolation quarterfinals, Miller lost to Tyler Price of Pataskala Licking Heights 8-3.

Wrestling for seventh, Miller recorded a 6-4 decision over Kyle Lang of Norwalk.

Miller ended his freshman season with a 34-10 record.
