It was a rough season opener for the Carrollton Warriors as they were soundly defeated by Dover 63-14.
The Tornadoes did everything right in the opening stanza, racing out to a 35-0 lead. They increased their lead to 49-0 before the Warriors dented the scoreboard on a 62-yard pass from John Lowdermilk to Robbie Smith.
The duo hooked up once more in the second half, this time from 9 yards out.
Smith finished with seven catches for 169 yards and two scores.
Lowdermilk completed 17-of-27 passes for 274 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Carrollton rushed the ball 31 times for 131 yards, while Dover gained 248 yards on 32 totes. Through the air, the Tornadoes' quarterbacks completed 24-of-35 passes for 410 yards.
Dover receiver Colton Zahner set school records with 14 catches for 291 yards. He caught four touchdown throws from quarterback Derik Swinderman, who completed 22-of-33 for 381 yards and six scores.
Carrollton will host East Liverpool this Friday, Sept. 3.
