More than 80 people attended the Ohio Design Centre's most recent "First Friday" presentation focused on creating beautiful tablescapes for the upcoming holiday season.
Those looking for inspiration gathered to see local interior design professional Kim Carroll's festive ensembles in each of the Centre's eight showrooms.
Carroll created classic tablescapes for formal and informal holiday gatherings as well as other unique get-togethers such as Mad Men and steampunk themed parties. She explained how to incorporate family heirlooms (like china) with modern pieces for an updated, eclectic look.
The guided tour included where to source special accessories for a truly unique holiday display. Some of Carroll's takeaway tips include:
Assessing all items. Mix updated and vintage pieces (such as family heirlooms and modern accessories).
Shop antique stores. Unique items will make your table memorable.
Get inspired by eras you love. Tablescape can pull together a themed gathering.
Don't cover a beautiful table. Protect it with coasters and placemats instead of a tablecloth.
Less is more. Traditional settings using crisp whites and sparkly metallics are always a good idea.
Consider all of the guest's senses. Play soft music, adjust the lights and use folded fabric napkins.
Provide a variety of shapes, sizes, layers. This creates a texturally-rich look.
Set the table the night before the party. This cuts down on day-of stress and any last minute changes.
