Winter weather conditions have claimed another life of a loved one in Carroll County.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol in New Philadelphia investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash that took place Monday, Feb. 18, at 11:28 p.m. on state Route 183 (Alliance Road), near Fox Auto Salvage and Lardon Road in Brown Township.

Lisa M. Smith, 42, Pueblo Trail, Malvern, was traveling toward home that night, eastbound on Alliance Road when her 2005 Jeep Wrangler lost control and traveled into the westbound lane. Smith struck a 2002 Ford F-250 Super Duty truck being driven by Richard W. Beavers, 60, of Dayton.

After striking the Ford F-250 truck, Smith then struck a guardrail and came to a stop.

Carroll County Coroner Dr. Mandal Haas pronounced Smith deceased at the scene.

Emergency members from Bartley Ambulance, Brown Township Fire Department, Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, and Ohio State Highway Patrol were at the crash scene for nearly two and a half hours.

This is Carroll County's second fatal crash in 18 days due to weather conditions. The first crash was only 17 days prior, on Feb. 1, when an Amsterdam boy Stuart Bailey, 17, died after the car he was in overturned on the icy roads.

Vince Carter, Carroll County ODOT transportation manager, cannot stress enough for drivers to "Take it slow on ice and snow."
