Firefighters from Malvern and Brown Township volunteer fire departments responded to a garage fire at 521 Wood St., Malvern, at 4 p.m. March 21.

Malvern firefighters arrived at the home of Jerome Metzger to find smoke rolling out of the cracks of the garage's bay door. The garage is attached to the home.

According to Malvern Fire Chief Ralph Castellucci, firefighters entered the garage through a service door and found the entire garage filled with smoke. When the smoke was cleared away, they discovered a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado truck ,heavily damaged by the fire, parked in the garage.

Castellucci said the source of the fire could not be determined at the time. However, indications lead them to believe that it possibly came from the truck. According to Metzger, he was inside his home and heard the truck horn blowing. When Metzger opened the door that leads to the garage from the home, he saw smoke, closed the door and called for the fire department.

The truck is a total loss. There was a large amount of damage to the interior of the garage, primarily to the walls, siding, and roof areas. Assistance was provided by Brown Township Fire department. No one was injured during the incident. An investigation on 1999 Chevrolet Silverado trucks shows that there are 13 defects listed. None of the defects are fire-related.
