Carrollton woman faces embezzlement chargesApril 23, 2008
On April 16, Carroll County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Carrollton woman on theft-related charges following an investigation of a theft of checks from her employer. Deputies arrested Joyce E. Austin, 50, of 3047 Parkland Drive SW, Carrollton, and was taken into custody at the sheriff's office. Austin's arrest came after an investigation by deputies into her involvement in a theft of checks from a local business where she works. She has been charged with one count of theft against an elderly person, a felony of the third degree, and 11 counts of theft against an elderly person, felonies of the fifth degree. The suspect would allegedly take company checks from her employer and then write them out to herself for cash. The loss so far is determined to be in excess of $15,000, but could be higher after the investigation is complete. The suspect is currently in the Carroll County Jail and is awaiting a bond hearing.
