Yes, it is time for spring cleaning again. Why not help the environment by recycling as you clean out the house and garage this year?

The Carroll-Columbiana-Harrison Solid Waste District will hold the annual Carroll County appliance, scrap-metal, and electronics recycling collection on Saturday, May 3, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at D&D TV and Appliance in Carrollton. Residents can bring refrigerators, freezers, other appliances and scrap metal, computers, TVs, VCRs, microwaves, fax machines and most other electronic items.

There is no cost for appliances, scrap metal or electronics and the district will recover and recycle the refrigerant. The electronics will be transported to the Elkton Federal Correctional Facility near Lisbon where they will be dismantled and recycled. No equipment or containers with hazardous material will be accepted, including 55-gallon drums, sealed containers, gas tanks, propane tanks, or paint cans. Telephones and cell phones are also not acceptable.

Used tires will also be collected at the same time. This year, the district will be allowing district residents to bring up to four tires (passenger car or light truck) per vehicle at no charge. There will be a 50-cent-per-tire charge for the next five to 10 passenger-car or light-truck tires, and $2 for every passenger-car or light-truck tire over 10 tires. Other costs will be as follows: $5 per truck tire and $10 per tractor tire. Only cash will be accepted. Tires on rims are acceptable and tires must be free of debris and water.

For more information, please call the district at 8800-980-7311 or see www.RecyclingMakesSense.org .
