Brown accounts for two winsApril 30, 2008
By TODD REED News Leader Sports Editor The Malvern boys (3-3) recorded five firsts in a triangular track meet at Newcomerstown with Tusky Central. The Trojans won the meet with 102 points, followed by the Hornets with 51 and the Saints with 22. Tom Andreski won the 1600 (4:54) and 3200 (11:01) and was a member of the victorious 4x800 (9:26), along with Clayton Brown, Danny Grego and Tyler Moody. Other firsts went to Ron Maksim in the 400 (54.2) and Cl. Brown in the 800 (2:07). Placing second were Howard Dyer in the discus (103'3), Cameron Lewis in the 110 hurdles (19.7) and 300 hurdles (49.2), and the 4x100 (52.2) consisting of Zach Johnson, Brett Lee, Lewis and Chase Richards. Thirds went to Richards in the shot (35'8), Lee in the discus (99'2) and Moody in the 800 (2:19). Finishing fourth were Max Kandel in the long jump (15'2) and 110 hurdles (23.0), Richards in the 100 (12.9), Johnson in the 300 hurdles (52.5) and Grego in the 3200 (n/a). "Clayton's time in the 800 was his fastest of the year and well ahead of his times at this point last year," noted Head Coach Nick Mackle. "Ron has had some injuries and his 400 was his first run in over a week. Even with running a conservative race, he was able to win with a decent time. "Howard Dyer had a personal-best throw in the discus and Cameron Lewis lowered his times in both hurdle races. "Tom competed in four events and had three wins. In the next week, he will choose his main event and we will focus on it for the end of the year. "We still have not competed in a meet at full strength, but times and marks are constantly improving." Girls Track and Field The Lady Hornets (1-5) finished third in the Newcomerstown triangular with 45 points. The Lady Trojans won the meet with 70 points and Tusky Central was third with 52. Becky Neitzel accounted for three firsts and one second. The senior won the 800 (1:04) and was a member of two winning relays - the 4x200 (2:01), along with Ashley Walker, McKenzie Richards and Heather Casper; and the 4x400 (4:41), along with Nicole Wackerly, Jessica Hupp and Richards. Neitzel also was a member of the second-place 4x800 (11:29), along with Hupp, Richards and Wackerly. Seconds went to Casper in the 100 (14.3) and 200 (30.2), Wackerly in the 400 (1:12), Richards in the 800 (2:53) and the 4x100 (1:01) consisting of Amelia Mayle, Alicia Sword, Walker and Casper. Finishing third were Katie Palleschi in the shot (26'4), Walker in the long jump (12'3.5), Mayle in the 100 hurdles (20.9) and Hupp in the 300 hurdles (59.7). Fourths went to Hupp in the long jump (11'10), Tara Dickson in the 1600 (9:17) and Walker in the 300 hurdles (1:04). "The girls did a great job tonight," stated Head Coach Mike Campbell. "We outscored both teams in the running events, but were outscored by 37 points in the field events. We don't have a high jumper or a pole vaulter and the long jumpers are just learning. Katie does a nice job in the shot and discus. "Becky Neitzel, Nicole Wackerly, Kenzie Richards, Jessica Hupp and Heather Casper had very good meets. Ashley Walker is also starting to pick it up. "The younger girls have stepped in and have helped a lot. We still have a few injuries that we are trying to get through. We are going to be OK. We are excited about how hard the girls are working." treed@alliancelink.com Comments
