Mohawk Trail Garden Club donates to Malvern Christian Care CenterMay 7, 2008
The Mohawk Trail Garden Club has set a goal in 2008 of donating 100 pounds of non-perishable food items to the Malvern Christian Care Center every two months. The Rev. A. Wallace Anderson accepts the club's recent collection of food items from President Carol Davidson, Sue Russell, Treasurer Dorothy Moushey, Shirley Wilson, Julie Shives, Peggy Carver and JoAnn Rennie. The garden club also held a pancake breakfast in April and presented a $289 check to the center from its proceeds. The Malvern Christian Care Center distributes food on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In April, the center gave 84 families, approximately 250 people, food. Those receiving food must meet the federal poverty guidelines. According to Anderson, the center has seen a "steady" increase in clients, with many being "working poor" and the elderly. Volunteers are needed for sorting, packing and distribution. Anyone interested in receiving assistance or volunteering should call 330-863-1303. Comments
