West Township residents may feel the failure of the township's road levy under their wheels this summer. On April 15, West Township Board of Trustees voted to cut the township's planned chip-and-seal program from three miles to one. It was noted that the township has $25,000 budgeted for the program and no additional funds are available with the failure of the levy. President Michael Ray advised road employee Charles Curfman to keep working on patching until he is done with the roads. Ray commended Curfman for a good job so far. A presentation was made before the meeting by Scott McCrea of Dynamic Structures Inc. and at the end of the meeting by Titus Miller of Milla Const Systems Inc. No decision was made by the trustees. Both quotes are comparable. Bill Wilson of the Morris Agency discussed the United Health Care renewal increase of 6 percent, which is less than most at 20 percent and will be with lower coverage. Trustees thanked Wilson for the presentation, but decided to wait until the next meeting to make their decision. The renewal date is June 1. In other business, trustees: * HEARD Todd Wiliams report he has purchased 200 feet of 10-inch plastic culvert to fill in the ditch and would purchase another 200 feet to run it all the way to state Route 172. Trustees advised Williams he would need three "clean-outs" for the first 200 feet and were to review the area. * RECEIVED from Minerva Fire Chief Richard McClellan the department's quarterly report, which noted the department had 15 runs in the township. * LEARNED Paris Township Board of Trustees had approved an ordinance to purchase a new tanker truck, in conjunction with the West Township trustees and the village of Minerva. The cost of the truck will be split between the three entities, at a cost of $73,951 each. The village of Minerva will serve as the primary purchasing agent. * AUTHORIZED McClellan to purchase five gallons of foam. * AGREED to order 40 feet of 48-inch culvert from Columbiana County Engineer Bert Dawson. * HEARD Clerk Sue Hawk report three additional orders for foundations have been received for a total of 11. * HIRED Justin Yoder to replace the New Alexander Cemetery sign at a cost of $1,400 with the East Rochester Garden Club donating $200. * HIRED Mike Hilles to straighten six monuments at Moultrie Cemetery at a quoted price of $808. A two-inch additional border will be included with Ray responsible for mapping the monuments out with the township making the footers. Trustee Herb Eglie pledged $500 to repair monuments. * PAID bills totaling $21,232. * Recessed into an executive session for personnel with no action taken upon reconvening. Comments
