A sunny Saturday afternoon found four fire departments busy, battling a structure fire on Moccasin Road in Augusta Township, just east of state Route 9.

Firefighters from Augusta Township and Carroll County volunteer fire departments were called at 2:18 p.m., May 10, to the home of Paul Kennedy,1288 Moccasin Road, Carrollton, after several neighbors called 911 to report the house fire.

On arrival, the firefighters observed a large amount of black smoke in the air and flames blazing from the roof of the brick ranch home. Firefighters battled the blaze and smoke for several hours as heavy fire damage was in the roof and the garage areas.

According to one firefighter, the homeowner was not at home at the time, but arrived shortly after.

Additional fire departments, Carrollton Village and Fox Township, responded to the home to assist. Carroll Cooperative was contacted to disconnect the electric service to the home.

According to Augusta Township Fire Chief Ronald Dinger, he and the state fire marshal were back at the house on May 12.

Dinger reports that the origin and cause of the fire is being ruled unknown at this point.
