Known as the friendliest home gardening community on the Internet, GardenHere encourages its members to publish blogs, post personal experience stories and visit with friends in their chat rooms. The free Web site lists topics ranging from home gardening and home improvement to pets, health, diet and style. There are additional areas for recipes, tips, photos, and small business. "Our newly designed Web site is filled with useful and anecdotal content submitted almost entirely by our members," says site administrator, Al Stubblefield. "The site is moderated and managed by an all-volunteer staff of dedicated members who care about maintaining the family-friendly atmosphere and increasing the quality of content we provide to the public." There is no charge to visit and read the site. However access to most features, such as the chat rooms, private messaging or to be able to post content, visitors will need to register -- free. Once registered and logged-in, new members will discover they have the ability to award stars and make comments on content posted throughout the site, as well as access to add their own photos, blogs, articles, recipes and tips. "The new site boasts an open access concept where members can fully participate in building the community and increase the collective knowledge base," said Stubblefield. In addition to contributing useful content, members are encouraged to review spelling and grammar or clarify facts as they read through the site. Members of GardenHere earn points for content contributions and for positive actions they take on the community Web site. Each action earns members a slightly different number of points and these values may change from time to time based on the needs of the community. Members with a Google account can earn a portion of the income derived from ads placed next to their story, tip, recipe or other content. The site contains an area for trade lists where members exchange plants and flowers. There is also a plant-identification area where members upload photos from their garden or insert photos from the galleries and describe the plants. Comments
