Malvern High School to celebrate 2008 commencementMay 21, 2008
Malvern High School's Class of 2008 will hold its commencement exercises Sunday, June 1, at 2:15 p.m. in the high-school gymnasium. The processional will be performed by the Malvern High School Concert Band, conducted by Ben Baker, followed by a welcome by Rosalie Dews and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Nicole Wackerly. The Senior Choir will sing "Good Riddance," by Billie Joe and Green Day. The valedictorian address will be given by Rebecca Neitzel, and high-school Principal Douglas Schmidt and middle-school Principal Jane Swinderman will present the graduating class. Diplomas will be presented by the Brown Local School District Board of Education, and Pamela Coleman, Class of 2008 president, will lead the changing of the tassels. Following remarks by district Superintendent Connie Griffin, Trevor Halter, high-school choir president, will sing the Alma Mater. Kathryn Palleschi will close the ceremony and the Concert Band will play the recessional. Christina Rine, Collin Brown, Tara Dickson, and Kaitlin VanMeter will serve as marshals, and Andrew Gascon and Bianca Burwell will serve as ushers. The Class of 2008 chose a white silk rose tipped in green as its flower. The class motto is, "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined," by Henry David Thoreau. Valedictorian Rebecca Neitzel is the daughter of Neal and Judy Neitzel of Lake Mohawk. She is vice president of National Honor Society and a member of the foreign-language club. Rebecca will attend Malone College this fall to study nursing. Pamela Coleman, daughter of Eugene and Stephanie Coleman of Malvern, is salutatorian. She is president of the Class of 2008, vice president of Student Council, and a member of National Honor Society and the foreign-language club. Pamela will attend The University of Akron this fall to study accounting. Comments
