The Minerva High School National Honor Society presented the annual Honors Night celebration, May 15, recognizing academic and athletic excellence.

Renee Powell presented two William and Marcella Powell scholarships, sponsored by the Tiger Woods Foundation, Inc., to Katherine Slack and Aaron Strait.

Robert Hill and Morgan Sanor received V.F.W. Men's Auxiliary scholarships.

The Courtesy Award, sponsored by the Class of 1937, was presented to Hannah Riley.

Tessa DiGiacomo received the Outstanding French I-IV Student Award, and Ashley Evanich received the Outstanding Spanish I-IV Student Award.

Honored for their performance on the National Latin Exam were: Level I -- Bre Landis, cum laude; Taylor Bailey, Margo Albright, Josh Melching, and Kayla Green, magna cum laude; Level II -- Kate Raffle, maxima cum laude; Conor Freeland, summa cum laude; Level III -- Justin Blackburn and Sabrina Detchon, cum laude; Level IV -- Katie Worley, cum laude. Jeffrey McPherson was named Outstanding Senior Latin Student.

The AultCare Team Spirit Award was presented to Jillian Green.

Math Department scholarships, awarded to students pursuing careers in mathematics education, were presented to Kourtney Betler and Jillian Green, who also received the Outstanding Senior Mathematics Award, sponsored by FormTech Industries.

Shan Lin was presented the Bausch-Lomb Science Award.

Tubal Lodge 551 of Free & Accepted Masons awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Mathematics Scholarship to Kourtney Betler, and the Outstanding Achievement in Science Scholarship to Jillian Green.

Brandy Thompson was named the Minerva Lions Community Civic Club Outstanding American History Student.

The John F. Kennedy Memorial Award, given in honor of Marie Wolf by Rolland Wolf to an outstanding government student was presented to Jillian Green.

Rebbeca Kreierhoff received the Social Studies Department Award.

Life Share Community Blood Services scholarships were presented to Mallory Evans, Morgan Sanor, Tessa DiGiacomo, Athena Spinell and Evan Nickell.

American Legion Test awards were presented to sophomores Aaron Burman and Kelsie Penick, juniors Matthew Granger and Kelsee Fankhauser, and seniors Nicholas Michel and Sabrina Detchon. Mallory Evans was awarded the American Legion Jesse Jones Memorial Scholarship.

The English Department Scholarship was presented to Kara Moore, and the Journalism Award, sponsored by The News Leader was presented to Heather Hartman.

Minerva Education Foundation and Alumni Association scholarships were awarded to Kourtney Betler, Megan Brigham, Ashley Evanich, Mallory Evans, Jillian Green, Kimberly Inscoe, Spencer Mapes, Angela Miller, Kara Moore, Hannah Riley, Brandy Thompson, and Tessa DiGiacomo.

Jeffrey McPherson received the Dr. and Mrs. Samuel L. Weir Memorial Scholarship, the Little Sandy Creek Ruritan Club Scholarship, Thomas W. Gallagher Scholarship, and the Mary Irene Day P.T.O. Scholarship.

The Larry P. Gram Memorial Scholarship, given by Mr. and Mrs. David R. Gram in memory of David's brother Larry, was presented to Nicholas Michel.

Bob Simms Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Jillian Green, Nicholas Michel, Megan Brigham, and Ashley Evanich.

Morgan Sanor and Emily Sechrest were presented West Elementary P.T.O. awards, which go to the students with the highest accumulative averages who attended West for at least three years and are going on to school.

Andrew Lairson was awarded the Army ROTC Scholarship for Akron University.

The annual Stacy Ann Ray NursingScholarship was presented to Lisa Haynam.

Erika Davis received the Academic Excellence Award, compliments of Consumers National Bank.

The annual Dallas R. and Earnest H. Lutz Memorial Scholarship was presented to Kimberly Inscoe.

Kourtney Betler received the annual R. C. Miller Memorial Scholarship.

The 2008 Rotary scholarships were presented to Katherine Slack and Robert Hill, and the Rotary Club William Elliott Memorial Scholarship was presented to Kathy Oyer.

Ashley Evanich and Nicholas Michel were named Alliance Elks Local Teens of the Year, and Evanich was named Alliance Elks District Teen of the Year. The Ohio Elks Association District scholarships were presented to Nicholas Michel, Brandy Thompson, and Jillian Green, and Michel also received the Ohio Elks Association State Scholarship.

Mallory Evans and Nicholas Michel were named Ray A. Kroc Teens of the Year, sponsored by McDonalds.

The Paul and Carol David Foundation awarded scholarships to Margaret Bell, Robert Hill, Logan Lab, Kathy Oyer, and Katherine Slack.

Kimberly Inscoe was awarded the annual Kenneth and Joyce Rogers Honorary Scholarship.

The West Township Ruritan Club presented scholarships to Lisa Haynam and Kara Moore.

The Gregg Palmer Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Dylan Walker.

As a result of an abatement agreement between Colfor Mfg., Inc. and the Minerva Local School District, scholarships were awarded to Sarah Barkan, Spencer Mapes, Kara Moore, and Athena Spinell. The same abatement agreement also resulted in FormTech Industries awarding scholarships to Kathy Oyer and Michael Hillyer.

Brandy Thompson received the Pursuit of Excellence Award from Kempthorn Motors.

The annual Lee Jackson Memorial Scholarship, given in cooperation with the M.L.E.A. in memory of Lee Jackson was awarded to Brooke Preston.

Kathleen Worley, Alexander Emrich, and Logan Lab received Elizabeth J. Polen scholarships.

Jillian Green received an Ohio Academic Scholarship and the Stark County School Counselors Association Award to a student pursuing a career in education.

Ohio High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete awards were presented to Kourtney Betler and Spencer Mapes. The OHSAA Archie Griffin Sportsmanship awards were presented to Brooke Preston and Kevin Sweitzer.

The OHSAA State Award for Exemplary Contribution and Service was presented to Dr. Robert DiDomenico and Dr. Mark Hostetler.

Athena Spinell was named the Wendy's High School Heisman national nominee and received the OIAAA Don Nelson Award.

Army Reserve Scholar Athlete awards were presented to Kourtney Betler and Alexander Emrich.

Margaret Bell, Angela Miller, and Athena Spinell were awarded Normandy Inn scholarships.

The Alice Kidder Memorial Female Athlete of the Year Award was presented to Hannah Riley, and the V.F.W. Cliff Draher Memorial Athlete of the Year Award was presented to Spencer Mapes.

Assistant Principal Don Spinell presented a desk set, consisting of a lamp of knowledge and pen mounted on a walnut base, to each senior NHS member, compliments of National City Bank.
