Judge David E. Stucki, of the Stark County Family Court, has been named by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's Acting Administrator Jeff Slowikowski, as the primary representative from the State of Ohio to the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice.
This appointment comes upon the nomination of Stucki for this position by Ohio Governor Ted Strickland. Stucki has previously served as the alternate representative to the FACJJ for Ohio for the last four years.
The federal advisory committee meets throughout the year to examine and propose policies to promote the best interest of the children and families of the United States.
The FACJJ was created by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act in 1974, with core values including promoting public policy to ensure fairness and access to each youth and community to the Juvenile Justice System. The federal advisory committee advises the president and Congress and works with the attorney general of the United States to foster the development of such public policy.
In accepting the appointment, Stucki said, "It is an honor to be nominated by Governor Strickland and appointed by the national administration to serve in this very important post. I look forward to representing the state of Ohio in advocating for what is best for our nation's children."
The appointment is for two years, and members are only reimbursed their expenses to attend the meetings. Additional information about the federal advisory committee on Juvenile Justice may be found at www.facjj.org
Stucki is a past president of the Ohio Association of Juvenile Court Judges and the current secretary of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.
