By EDWARD L. HALE Mr. Thrifty Correspondent A traffic stop brought charges against four Canton men Feb. 20. At around 9 p.m., Carroll County Sheriff's deputies stopped the vehicle for traffic violations on Third Street SE, Carrollton, explained Sheriff Dale Williams. Assisted by Carrollton Police officers, deputies arrested Charles Cottrell, 41, of Third Street, Canton; Leon S. McNutt, 32, of Mahoning Road, Canton; Michael L. Hogan, 28, of Saint Elmo Street, Canton; and Joshua I. Barrino, 20, of 23rd Street, Canton. Deputies discovered Cottrell to be under suspension and the passengers to be in possession of cocaine. According to police reports, the charges include: Cottrell, driving under suspension and complicity in the distribution of cocaine; McNutt, complicity to distribute cocaine; Hogan, complicity to distribute cocaine; and Barrino, possession of cocaine, complicity to distribute cocaine, and trafficking in drugs. All charges are felony-class charges. Williams reported McNutt had an outstanding warrant out of Carroll County Juvenile Court for failure to appear at a support hearing. According to Williams, the Canton men allegedly came to Carroll County to sell the illegal drugs and were arrested when the drugs were discovered during the traffic stop. Deputies seized cocaine, marijuana, and money, along with cell phones. Barrino, Cottrell and Hogan were released Feb. 22, from the county jail on a $20,000 own-recognizance bond each and will appear in Carroll County Municipal Court to answer to charges in front of Judge Gary Willen. McNutt is still incarcerated in the county jail on a $10,000 cash/surety bond from Carroll County Juvenile and Carroll County Municipal courts. Williams said his department is determined to minimize the drug activity to ensure the citizens of Carroll County a safe environment to live and raise their families. Williams noted additional charges may be coming while the investigation continues. Comments
