The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will host the kickoff event for its annual "Light The Night Walk" Tuesday, July 27, at the Spaghetti Warehouse in Akron. The kickoff event is an opportunity to connect with fellow walkers and team captains as well as a chance to brainstorm fundraising ideas.

This kickoff is 5-7 p.m., with dinner being served compliments of Spaghetti Warehouse. Those in attendance will also hear motivational stories from Akron's honored hero, Hannah Kretch.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Light The Night Walk" is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling blood cancers. The walk features participants walking a one-mile route and carrying colored balloons--white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold in memory of someone who has lost their battle with cancer.

Funds raised benefit vital, life-saving research and patient services. In fiscal year 2010, individuals, families and corporations from across the country who participated in "Light The Night" raised more than $39 million.

The Akron "Light The Night Walk" will be held on Sunday, Oct. 3, at InfoCision Stadium at the University of Akron.
