The Robertsville Fire Department was called to the scene, and Chief Eddie Bennett said he was assisted by Osnaburg Township and Minerva fire departments, as well as Bartley Ambulance Service.
Minerva rescue workers had to free Schmachtenberger from under his vehicle. Osnaburg Township rescue workers used extrication equipment to free Ellyson and his 15-year-old brother, a passenger, from their car.
Seat belts were in use by the two occupants of car, but Schmachtenber was not wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol was not a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
