A new art show featuring miniature art and collectible dolls is on display for May and June at the Carroll County Arts Center. An artists' reception for participating artists is scheduled for Sunday, May 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
The doll display is the personal collection of Ellie Bender of Malvern, owner of the Eclectic Collection doll shop, formerly of Minerva. The exhibit represents a lifetime of collecting designer, vintage and other one-of-a-kind dolls. Bender will be at the artists' reception to discuss her collection.
The deadline for registering for the Kids Summer Art and Music Camp, "Arts of Appalachia," at the Bluebird Farm has been extended until May 10. Children going into fourth, fifth and sixth grades next year are eligible to attend the camp. Fees are $25 per student and include music lessons, art supplies and snacks. A limited number of scholarships are available for the camp.

Lee Faa of Malvern will teach a beginning photography class for adults on Wednesday, May 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. This class is for both film and digital photography. Faa is planning to conduct these classes on a continuing basis to lead the student to a deeper understanding of the art of photography. Plans and times for additional classes will be announced at this class. The fee is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Students should pre-register for the class, which will be cancelled for lack of attendance.

Marty Chapman of Minerva will be at the Carrollton Farmers' Market Saturday, May 17, demonstrating the art of woodturning. The Arts Center will have a tent at the market, offering information about membership, classes and coming events.
The Ohio Farm Bureau is sponsoring a statewide art contest again this year, entitled "A Tip of the Hat to Ohio Agriculture," and the Arts Center is the place to enter the event.
A 10-gallon straw cowboy hat is this year's canvas for a local artist to turn into a prize-winning representation of agriculture in Carroll County. The hat and contest rules are now available at the Arts Center. Last year's Carroll County Farm Bureau artist Wayne Chunat won the Brutus Buckeye prize awarded during the Ohio State Fair. Hats must be in Columbus by July 1 to be part of the competition.
The Arts Center is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Call 330-627-3739 during those hours for more information or see the Arts Center Web site at www.carrollcountyartscenter.org.
